Another Day Another Kickoff

Go Tigers Go! It’s 20 minutes to kick. It’s hot as he’ll so perfect Memphis football weather. We can’t play unless we’re all melting together. Hopefully, it will also give us a bit of an advantage against Boise St. Hopefully they’ll melt a little more than us. Tiger Lane is crowded. Tiger fans are filing in. Here’s to hoping for a great Tigers’ win. And some good ole Memphis football. It ain’t pretty but it is fun. GO TIGERS GO! 10 minutes to go to kickoffOnce again my wife opines that the Alma mater song should be I’m so glad I go to the UofM. My only thought is I miss Tom the Tiger. Living Forever Because My Granddaughter Says So

The other day, I began the day feeling old – closer to 70 than I had been the year before. Yet I also seem to be younger than my peers. Despite all my medical issues, I have been able to manage some household chores and even do some minor projects. I can also almost keep up with my two young grandchildren when I get to see them. I assured him my son was not interested, but he …

Grandkids – The Reason I Keep Pounding on the Keyboard

Running faster than lightning across a field. Chasing a squirrel. Watching the ducks on the pond. Shooting whirligigs into the air. Making homemade pizza and the mess that goes with them. Reading Dr. Seuss at the dinner table. Enjoying another visit with the grandkids – a moment of what life should be. A reminder of why I write. As I write each day, I sometimes forget why I write social commentary. Sometimes I get lost in moments of frustration. Sometimes I lose my focus on my writing’s purpose. Sometimes I wander into the fight without a clue of why I fight. Then I get to see my grandchildren. They remind me of why I, even in retirement, still care about …

Giving America the Middle Finger–Congressional Style

It’s now predawn on this fine day – September 15, 2023. My wife is still in bed, blissfully sleeping. I pray she is dreaming of our next adventure in life. I can only speculate as I watch her sleep. Whether it’s another beach trip, a cruise, or just another great day with our grandchildren, I may never know. I am sure that if she is having a good dream night, it is a time of quiet, peace, and joy. I’m sure it’s just a time to enjoy life. After all, that is what we hope we can do at some point. Oh, how I wish my brain would allow me such peace.  But I’m up too early because my brain …
