I Nominate Myself for Speaker of the House

Or maybe even a better option

As politics goes nuts, as usual, it looks like this year’s winners are already entering into a circular firing squad and they aren’t even in office yet.  It looks like the presumptive speaker, Kevin McCarthy, is going to be challenged in getting the 218 votes he needs to assume the gavel.  Of course, with some arm twisting and some political promises and give and take, he should be able to slide into the Speaker’s seat.

However, given all the insanity that a very tight house majority will bring to the floor, I think it’s time we actually nominated and selected a Speaker who is not a member of Congress.  After all, it’s going to take some real doing to get anything done at all over the next two years.

To that end, I would like to volunteer for the job.  I am not a politician.  I’m just an old retired crusty Navy Chief.  So I don’t put up with much in the way of BS.  I also don’t care about other opinions on what to do if there is only one clear path.  I just point the ship in the right direction and shove off.  Then on to the next event.  I also don’t care much for politics at all.  Congress should have a clear job and a pretty easy one.  To help run the country as efficiently as possible and, if they are any good, as invisible as possible.  In other words, the nation should appreciate the job they are doing without a lot of fanfare.  Just get it done.

Which leads me to a better option.

In reality, I think the best selection for Speaker of the House is someone who has the training to bring together many diverse views and make them sit down and behave in a civilized manner.

A person who can tolerate any environment and help the group to excel.  A person who can do this while being invisible to most of the world and yet appreciated and loved by her group.  Because of this, I suggest that only kindergarten teachers be allowed to apply to be Speaker of the House.  Besides, who else could corral a bunch of needy brats enough to get them to settle down, do what they need to do, and make their parents proud that they can finally play well with others?
