Yesterday America voted and they voted for the most part against President Trump’s candidates. Besides that Ron DeSantis won big in Florida. With those two facts, the resurrection of a Trump presidency may have been dealt its final blow. However, as I noted before, Trump should still hold out hope that his candidate in Georgia, Herschel Walker, loses. Yes, I said, Trump needs desperately for Walker to lose. Again, it’s Trump’s catch-22.
First, a Walker loss is the only path for Trump to not be forced out of his limelight. With a win, there is a good chance that the Republicans will secure the Senate. And as I said before, if Mitch McConnell is again the senate majority leader, he will begin to corral the limited Republican majority to surgically remove any power the MAGA brand has remaining. Mitch McConnell will begin to remake the party to serve its new up-and-coming master – Ron DeSantis.
Second, the more important result of this result will be that Trump’s campaign money machine will immediately die. With Republicans in control and a popular governor in DeSantis, the money well will dry up as the establishment cuts ties and encourages big donors to move on.
Yet, third, if somehow Trump can prevent a Walker win or actually switch to help Walker lose, he may become even more relevant than before. In fact, in the oddest move, he could come out in support of Warnock, Trump could set up some wild scenarios for himself and his potential to reclaim the White House for himself.
In that last scenario, Trump could put himself in direct odds with DeSantis and the Republican party. He could then set up to run a wildcat takeover of the Republican party as he did in 2016. Or he could look to build an anti-establishment party and seek a coalition of those who are fed up with both Democrats and Republicans. He could also do the unthinkable for anyone but himself. Donald Trump could come home to the party of his earlier year. Trump could seek the Democratic nomination. And this last option intrigues me the most. And if he considers this one, I hope he will give me a call. After all, Trump was never a Republican. Trump was always just a pissed-off Democrat.
But again, here is Trump’s catch-22. If the Republicans take the Senate, Ron DeSantis will be declared the heir apparent and Trump’s money pipeline will be a dry as the Arizona desert. Only in one last big loss does Trump preserve his future.
